Parks Canada warns Banff skiers of dangerous conditions

Safety officials in Banff National Park are urging people to exercise extreme caution when heading to the mountains this weekend.

?This weekend is going to start to get a little sunnier and we have all this fresh snow and the lure to ski all those powder slopes is going to be strong,? said Lisa Paulson, Parks Canada?s visitor safety specialist.

Paulson said forecasters are calling for sunny skies with temperatures just below zero, along with 60 centimetres of snow which is creating dangerous conditions.

?We know there's lot of people out there testing their new gear so that's the concern for us this weekend.?

Officials will downgrade the avalanche warning system from high to considerable this weekend, but Paulson said that there is the risk for a natural avalanche, not one triggered by people.
