Direct Success With A Computer Programming Degree

A computer programming degree is one of the most sought after degrees in the field of information technology. While it is often mistaken as one of the easier areas of IT, the truth of the matter is: those who do not have an aptitude for detail or the ability to think in an abstract manner may not find it as easy as they assume it is. A computer programmer is one who, like other hands on vocations, must work with extreme precision and craftsmanship.

At the same time, many people choose computer programming because it is not a deep or multi faceted subject as that of chemistry, physics or other material sciences. While computer science has its own theories, it is not the center of the world for computer programming. Many enjoy computer programming for its physical, hands on approach.

One of the things that can make earning a computer programming degree much easier is a natural tendency for paying attention to detail. Unknown to many, computers are simple machines that will only do as they are instructed. A programmer whose job is to set forth directives knows that leaving out even the smallest part of information can cause major problems.

Another helpful skill to have is that of a good memory. The number of variables that go into a computer program concerning syntax, functions, bugs, solutions and much more can be quite staggering. However, the more information and data one can remember on their own, the more successful their career will be.

Some would say the most crucial skill for this line of work is being able to keep a number of complex working systems in mind all at once. While this will take some time and skill to master, it is one of the great traits of a computer programmer. This ability to think abstractly can help with programs exhibiting up to 1,000,000 or more lines of code.

Typically, a Bachelor?s degree is required for many entry-level positions in this field. Those who graduate with a Bachelor?s degree will have training in analytics and the implementation of computer systems as well as maintenance and even design. With this type of computer programming degree one may find themselves with career opportunities in software programming, network programming or website programming.

A master?s degree in computer programming allows graduates to implement high-level software programs. Because of the ever-changing world of technology, they often design software for business environments that greatly rely on technology as well. While being trained in a number of different programs, those with Master?s degrees also put their leadership skills into use as the head or director of IT departments.

Whether opting for a Bachelor?s or Master?s, many in this field find they have the benefit of one of the highest earning powers of any industry available. With such a heavy dependence on computers and technology, the demand for such professionals is in just about every area on the map. There is no doubt that this is a strong profession with a solid future.

This type of degree means always getting to be at the forefront of the latest changes. Programmers must also earn certifications in certain programs and update them regularly to keep up with the newest technologies. Many in this field enjoy the opportunity to continue learning and the ongoing training needed in this fast paced world.

A computer programming degree encompasses so much that many in this field find their career constantly evolving right along with technology. There are so many different areas in which to branch out and grow, there is no worry of ever becoming bored or getting stuck in a rut. Programmers have the fulfillment that comes with seeing their work have a positive effect.

Jawbone Big Jambox packs on the pounds, rears its fat head at the FCC

Despite occupying a questionable space on the scale of must-have audio goods, Jawbone's little Bluetooth speaker that could managed to win us over with its ample range. Now, that stylish peripheral is about to get shunted out of the spotlight, making way for a plus-sized sibling. As recent FCC documents have revealed, the company has a Big Jambox in the works which is, presumably, bigger than its diminutive kin. Aside from ports for micro-USB, audio-in and power, not much else could be gleaned from the filing. Given its larger-than-life moniker, however, we'd expect this new offering to be more of a standard dock than kitschy accessory.

Top 3 Tips for Turning Former Flame into Friend | WZAKCleveland ...

The answer, as with most things, is: It depends.

Personally, I think that if you?ve shared an intimate and supportive connection with someone over time, it?s a shame not to stay on at least friendly terms with an ex.

But many people struggle to stay connected on a friendly level because they still desire something more from their ex. That?s when you can get into trouble. Bottom line: friendships are mutual. So if you are going to stay friends, you and your ex have to have to be in agreement about the vision for your friendship.

If you both agree you?d like to try to remain friends, here?s how to make the transition from relationship to friendship as smoothly as possible.

1. Agree to a No-Contact Period

If you?re just breaking up, it?s best to agree to a period of no contact? maybe 2 weeks, maybe 3 months. During this time, you begin to separate your lives and wean yourself from each other?s emotional support. Without this breathing space that creates final closure, you can wind up using your previous partner as a crutch and not really be moving on at all- something that will hold you both back. Agree to check in at the end of your decided upon time frame.

At that time, see if you are both past the ?reactive stage.? Can you talk to and think about each other without getting all emotional- either teary or angry? If so, it might be time to resume a friendship. If not, more time may be needed.

2. Create a Mutual Definition of Friendship

A friendship needs to start from a clean and clear space that is defined in a fresh way. So once you?ve created that space, confirm that you both still want to be friends. If the answer remains yes for you both- and it might not be after your grace period- then it?s time to decide what you want your friendship to look like.

Without this step, people tend to hurt each other because they have differing ideas of what it means to be ?friends? with an ex. So be honest with each other. What is your ideal? Coffee once a year to catch up? Friendly email updates once a quarter? Grabbing lunch once a month?

The goal here is to find something that feels good to both of you. If you can?t, chances are, it?s not the right time to maintain a friendly connection because someone is still emotionally attached and is going to get hurt.

3. Set Boundaries

You also need to talk about what kinds of things you still want to share. As partners, you likely turned to each other for support on everything, but that?s probably no longer appropriate. So, maybe you want to hear updates about work and fun, but you aren?t ready to hear about how excited your ex is about dating a new hottie. Maybe it?s still cool to ask him to pick you up at the airport or fix your sink, but maybe not.

Boundaries are especially important once a new romance is in your life. Your current partners may not be so thrilled that you remain connected to your old flame. So talk to your new partner and renegotiate your friendship levels dependent on what feels good to everyone involved.

When both partners are over the romance, have moved on emotionally, and both want the same things from each other, friendships with an ex can be a rewarding part of your life. After all, your ex?s were likely your best friends during periods of your life and staying connected can offer a unique, supportive connection that you value for a long time to come.

Have you ever kept an ex as a friend? How?d you pull it off?

Surgical breast biopsy not overused, study suggests

Surgical breast biopsy not overused, study suggests [ Back to EurekAlert! ] Public release date: 1-Feb-2012

Contrary to earlier findings, surgical breast biopsies may not be as overused as previously thought, according to a study in the February issue of the Journal of the American College of Radiology. Surgical breast biopsies are more invasive than needle biopsies, requiring an incision and the use of general anesthesia.

Results from a previous study in 2011 in a surgical journal suggested that surgery is used for 30 percent of breast biopsies, an excessive number. However, in response, the authors of this JACR article thought that the reported results may overstate the percentage of biopsies performed as surgical biopsies. As a result, they sought to more accurately assess the use of needle biopsy compared with surgical biopsy.

The nationwide Medicare Part B databases for 2004 to 2009 were used during the study. Trends in use of codes for five different types of breast biopsies, including needle biopsy with imaging, needle biopsy without imaging and surgical biopsy were determined.

Using a more appropriate analysis of the biopsy codes, Medicare data indicated that the true surgical breast biopsy figure is somewhere between two percent and 18 percent, and probably close to eleven percent.

"In the Medicare population nationwide, it seems the use of surgical biopsy is substantially less than the 30 percent previously alleged," said David C. Levin, MD, lead author of the study.

"Given that the recommended rate is ten percent, it seems that surgeons and radiologists are collaborating well and that surgical breast biopsy is not being overused," said Levin.
